Further information and useful websites
The Association of Reflexologists (www.aor.org.uk) was founded in 1984. It arose from a need to establish standards and to provide a network of qualified practitioners to which the public could refer with confidence.
The aim of the Association is to help maintain a high standard of practice and patient care and to promote reflexology. Members are bound by the Association’s Codes of Practice and Ethics.
The Government’s NHS Direct (www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk) facility is an excellent source of free, 24/7 health information. The telephone number is 0845 4647. Callers are first asked for the details regarding their enquiry before being connected to a qualified NHS nurse.
Channel 4 (www.channel4.com/health) and the BBC (www.bbc.co.uk/health) websites both have very useful information on health, lifestyle and self-help.
The Institute for Complementary and Natural Medicine (ICNM) (www.i-c-m.org.uk) is a UK registered charity that was formed in 1982 to provide the public with information on all aspects of the safe and best practice of Complementary Medicine through its practitioners, courses and research.
The Prince’s Foundation for Integrated Health (www.fih.org.uk) encourages the development of a 'whole person' approach to health. This means recognising that good food, the built environment, meaningful work, strong communities and access to nature can help us to stay well. It also encourages patient choice during illness - allowing people to combine the best of conventional and complementary medicine with lifestyle interventions to achieve the best possible quality of life.
